About Limousine Bull

Limousine Bull now

Gallery Space1Limousine Bull is a committee-run artists’ collective with an open membership. The collective has been resident at the Torry venue in Aberdeen since January 2005. Here the committee has been prolific in actively encouraging the presentation of contemporary art events, exhibitions and artist talks and workshops.

Our aim is to create opportunities for artists in Aberdeen and the North East region of Scotland by facilitating a range of projects and events. These opportunities range widely from exhibiting new work, developing artist in residence opportunities, staging events, drop-in life drawing sessions, curating, project managing a specific event and working as part of the limousine bull committee. This is a fantastic way to gain work experience and enhance your CV. Committee positions includes; Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Project Managers, Web-site administrator and Public Relations which includes designing promotional material.

On average Limousine Bull provided venues for sixteen events a year, showing work in our exhibition space. To complement these exhibitions and as an alternative, we source and provide other venues for exhibiting work in Aberdeen, the UK and abroad.

Limousine Bull in the past

A group of students from Gray’s School of Art started the collective in 1998. In these initial days the collective was resident at Justice Street, Aberdeen. Since those early days Limousine Bull has been based in Langstaine Place before inhabiting the latest premises in Torry. Along the way it’s seen a fair share of ups and downs commonly associated with voluntary run organisations and it’s comforting to know that something has sustained this collective and enabled it to withstand the test of time.

So what’s the catalyst that’s kept the collective going over the years? The people involved undoubtedly must be credited for sustaining the life of the collective, these artists want to make a difference not only for themselves but for the wider arts community.

About shows and projects

Gallery Space2Limousine Bull strives to maintain and present a varied selection of contemporary events and projects with the aim of attracting a broad cross section of the artistic community. Limousine Bull has achieved this by introducing and hosting several alternative elements to the diary. For example, in June 2006 Limousine Bull hosted its first month-long residency. Alison Dunlop an installation artist from Glasgow took on the challenge, after a month of hard work Dunlop achieved spectacular results with an installation created from thousands of threads that cut an arch through the Gallery space to dramatic effect.

Another example is the Nexus project. This is now in the second year after the first year was proven to be a success. This project encourages artists to work collaboratively from a distance, only coming together to make and show the work. This element within the project aims to develop ways in which artists from rural locations can overcome problems associated with being geographically distanced from the larger artistic community.

Limousine Bull would like to receive innovative suggestions for events or projects, we may be in a position to help you realise your project. Alongside these events Limousine Bull facilitates and presents a range of contemporary solo and mixed exhibitions within and out-with the space in Torry. Artists do not have to be Limousine Bull members to submit proposals however if you would like to join Limousine Bull please visit our membership section.
