Donna Ferenth: Objective Reality Preview Friday 24 July, 7 - 9pm Open Saturday 25 July to Sunday 2 August, 12 - 5pm, Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. | UR-Reality is an examination of reality in the digital age that we now inhabit. Are we still in control, or is our technology controlling us? Is there still a need for the primal, the instinctive desire to shape our environment? Two artists, Jiun-Jhy Her and Donna Ferenth examine these ideas in different ways, but both artists explore the possibilities of human interaction and intervention with digital technologies. By our own very individual physiologies and minds, the outcomes will be unique in every case; proving that maybe we are still in control of technology. |
Jiun-Jhy Her: Event Horizon

This interactive media installation was originally created for the purpose of researching how ‘meaningful experiences’ can be elicited by computer-based interactive media art in the public space.
“Event Horizon” is an ‘invisible boundary around a black hole past which nothing can escape the gravitational pull – not even light’. Depictions of these mysterious regions of space are largely based on the individual imagination of artists and writers. To some extent these individual depictions are akin to great works of art in that they stimulate the imagination of the audience and invoke a unique sensory experience.
The image patterns change randomly and dynamically and are triggered by the movement of the viewer. Sometimes they appear almost identical to ones that have emerged before. However, there are always subtle differences. This installation offers the viewers not merely physical interaction, but also participation in creative authorship, an ultimately unique experience.
Donna Ferenth: Objective Reality

Donna’s work returns us to the primal: a time of dwelling within caves; deprived of light we rely on other senses. A yearning to shape our environment with the only tools available: our hands, the only material: the Earth. Yet there are other forces at work: to what degree are we controlling them, or they us?
