Kevin McPhee & Miranda Blennerhassett (19th - 28th October)

Kevin McPhee & Miranda BlennerhassettA collaborative site-specific work by Miranda Blennerhassett and Kevin McPhee that refines their individual practices to minimal shared elements.

Although the artists tend to deal with separate themes in their work, both share a similar aesthetic within their practices; the installation time preceding the exhibition provides an opportunity to resolve these dissimilarities. This reductive approach towards collaboration allows the artists to distance themselves from individual ideas in order to create an autonomous work that is distinct from their respective practices.

Whilst a re-evaluation of space is central to the collaboration there are subtle suggestions of separate threads of consideration: colour, surface, form or narrative which are treated as a subtext. Referencing realms of existence outside the physical containment of architecture, this minimal work can be seen as an incomplete structure; an object of potential whose formal qualities reference modernism and monumentalism.

Miranda Blennerhassett and Kevin McPhee both graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee in 2004 and 2005 respectively. They have continued to exhibit both nationally and internationally since graduation.
